Since
the collapse of the former centralised Somalia, Awdalites
demonstrated significant progress on Heath and Education
systems. The general hospital of Borama and Amoud University,
both play key roles on the revitalizing the hope of the
new generation. In parallel, Awdal Development Organization
and other Awdalites Diaspora living in North America, Europe,
Asia and Australia contribute a lot into the improvement
of the Education and Heath systems. Also, private firms
and international companies such as Awdal Roads Company,
manifest interests and participate into the economical development
of Awdal. For more detail about the activities of Awdal
Roads Company, visit their web site at:

Mean while, let me share with you the following map of Awdal,
originally designed and published by a group of Samaroon
intellectuals living in North America.

This
map is the one that owners of Awdal Roads Company, Mr Michael
VanNotten and Mr Jim Davidson presented to the elders and
local authority of Awdal, in 2000.
As a valuable readers, you're encouraged to go through the
summary
of their trip and find out yourself, what these business
men went to do in Awdal
In conclusion, in addition of its not exploited maritime
resources, Awdal is one of the African's largest sources
of incense and myrrh, which are forestry products. Thus,
Awdal chief exports include livestock, fish, hides and skins
and, petroleum products. It's a credit to the Awdalites
Diaspora, the people and the local authority of Awdal that
cohesion has been maintained during a major economic crisis.
However, a principal source of frustration for the people
of Awdal is that aid co-ordination takes place in Woqooy
Qalbeed, where the so-called SomaliLand Administration transfers
even the social welfare support into the existence and the
maintenance of its troops. Uncertain and invisible is the
aid co-ordination that takes place in Nairobi, Kenya. While
there are obviously security and logistical reasons why
NGO's and agencies involved in aid co-ordination work in
central and southern Somalia prefer to be based in Nairobi,
there is no longer any valid reason for UN and larger international
organizations supporting development programs in Awdal to
automatically maintain program staff in Nairobi or elsewhere.
In fact, any aid program directed to Awdal should be based
in Awdal to better respond to the needs of the population
to whom it has been addressed in the first place. Therefore,
in order to implement that reality, there should be strong
commitment from UN and larger international organizations
for placing staff in Awdal. After all, office and housing
costs are much less and Awdal is far safer than where those
aids take place nowadays
